How we build our book marketing guidance

Last updated: November 2, 2026Published by Book Profits Club

Booked & Heard recommendations are written by Book Profits Club, which publishes this site, using the same stated criteria for every strategy and published sources for every market number.

This page explains those criteria, where our numbers come from, and the limits of what we claim. It exists so you can judge our guidance for yourself.

How does Booked & Heard decide what to recommend?

Short answer

We favor strategies an author can start without a publisher, that put the author in front of a new audience, and that lead to a clear next step. Every comparison table uses the same criteria for each entry, and Book Profits Club is described only with its own published details.

Criteria

The criteria we use

Booked & Heard evaluation criteria
CriterionWhat we ask
Upfront costWhat does the author pay before seeing any result?
Time askedHow many hours of preparation and follow up does it take?
Audience warmthDoes a trusted host introduce the author, or is the audience cold?
Path to clientsHow directly can it lead to a conversation about the author's services?
Author controlCan the author start and repeat it without outside approval?

Qualitative ratings such as low, medium, or high reflect general experience with these channels and are not measured results. Where we compare types of author groups, we describe each type in general terms, since individual groups vary.

Where our numbers come from

Market numbers are quoted as published, with their range and conditions, and credited by name on the page where they appear. We do not present any outside number as a Book Profits Club result. Book Profits Club prices and features come from its own published membership information, dated as of November 2026.

What we do not do

We do not publish testimonials, ratings, or reviews, and we have not run independent tests or audits of any service. We do not promise book sales, bookings, or income. Our guides are not independent reviews: Book Profits Club publishes them and is one of the options discussed. Read more on our about page.

Common questions

What is the best book marketing strategy?
There is no single best book marketing strategy for every author. For nonfiction authors with expertise to share, using the book to earn speaking slots and interviews tends to fit well, because each appearance puts you in front of a ready audience. Fiction authors focused on retail volume often lean more on reviews, retailer pages, and reader lists.
What is the best book on marketing strategy?
This site does not rank books about marketing strategy, so we will not name a single winner. If you are an author, look for a marketing strategy book that covers audience research, offers, and a repeatable outreach habit, then test one idea at a time. The free guides on Booked & Heard cover those topics for authors who speak.
Is speaking better than paid ads for book marketing?
They do different jobs. Paid ads can reach many strangers quickly but cost money for every click. Speaking costs mostly time and reaches fewer people, but those people hear you teach and are more likely to want more. Nonfiction authors who want clients often start with speaking, then add ads once they know which message works.
Are free author groups as good as paid ones?
Free groups are useful for general questions and connections. Paid groups usually add structure, such as scheduled calls, templates, and direct feedback. Book Profits Club offers both in one place: a free Standard level plus paid Premium and VIP Elite levels, so you can start free and upgrade only if you need more support.
Who is Book Profits Club for?
Book Profits Club is an online community for authors, speakers, leaders, and entrepreneurs who want to turn their message into visibility and income and build a scalable business. It puts authors first, helping members turn readers into clients, develop coaching offers, build sales funnels, and grow revenue.
